St. Malo oil field : Subsea 7 bags subsea installation services contract

UK subsea contractor Subsea 7 has bagged a subsea installation services contract from Chevron U.S.A for the St. Malo oil field in the US Gulf of Mexico as per the latest upstream oil and gas news.

Chevron and its partners MP Gulf of Mexico (jointly owned by Murphy Oil and Petrobras America), Equinor Gulf of Mexico, ExxonMobil and Eni Petroleum US are undertaking a waterflood oil recovery project at the US oil field.

The St. Malo oil field, which is part of the Jack St Malo project, is located in the Walker Ridge area, about 250 miles south of New Orleans in Louisiana.

Subsea 7 said that its scope of work includes project management, engineering, procurement, construction and installation of the multiphase pump system at the St. Malo oil field. Apart from that, the subsea engineering, construction and services company will be responsible for a 14 mile water injection flowline system, that includes a Swagelining polymer lined flowline, and the water injection control system.

Subsea 7 will immediately begin project management and engineering at its offices in Houston, Texas. On the other hand, the company will undertake fabrication of the water injection flowline and riser at its spoolbase in Ingleside, Texas, with offshore operations to be taken up in 2021.

Commenting on the St. Malo oil field contract, Craig Broussard – Vice President for Subsea 7 US, said: “The St. Malo multiphase pump system and water injection projects award is an important win for the Gulf of Mexico region. It combines the utilisation of our newest pipelay vessel, the Seven Vega, along with Subsea 7’s proven project execution capabilities and Swagelining’s polymer lining technology.

“In addition, the combination of the SURF scope for Subsea 7 and ongoing subsea equipment delivery by OneSubsea, will allow the Subsea Integration Alliance to work in collaboration with Chevron to unlock the value of an integrated approach to project optimisation.”
