SmartSens acquires CMOS image sensors firm Allchip Microelectronics

SmartSens Technology has wrapped up its acquisition and merger with Shenzhen-based Allchip Microelectronics, a provider of CMOS image sensors for automotive applications.

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Allchip Microelectronics is engaged in the design and development of CIS video sensing technologies. Its products, which include a series of SOC image sensors, are said to be deployed widely in automobile cameras and other miniaturized video surveillance applications.

Dr. Richard Xu – Founder and CEO of SmartSens said: “The increasing adoption of image sensors in automobiles has brought new momentum to the imaging market. According to a projection by research firm Yole Développement, the volume of camera modules in the global automobile market will exceed US$8B by 2025.

Based in Shanghai, the company supplies high-performance CMOS imaging systems across the world and is one of the leading players in the video surveillance industry. SmartSens Technology’s products are used in vehicle-mounted imaging, machine vision, and consumer electronics fields.
