Different kinds of instruments are used in medical technology to know about the disorders of the body.

Some of the diagnostic instruments include

ECG – Electrocardiograph: Electrocardiograph detects the myoelectrical changes that takes place during cardiac cycle. Sino-atrial block, angina pectoris, valvular defects etc, can be detected by using ECG.
Echocardiography: It is a sonographic imaging of the heart, heart vessels, walls of the heart and walls etc,.
EEG – Electroencephalograph: It records the electric activity from different regions of the brain. It diagnoses the epilepsy, brain tumour, abscesses, drug effects on the brain, sleep disorder etc,.
MET – Magnetoencephalographic technique: This technique detects the weak magnetic waves to find out the health condition of the various parts of the brain.
Autoanalysers: These are the automatic computerised instruments used for estimating the different biochemicals present in the body fluids like urea, cholesterol, proteins, glucose and enzymes etc,.

Some of the imaging instruments include

Tomography: It creates the 3D image of the internal area in layers and detects the presence of cysts, calculi, cancer etc.
CT Scanning: It is an imaging method using invasive technique with low level X-ray radiation. It is used to detect the disorders of the abdomen, chest, spinal cord, tumour and internal haemorrhage etc,.
CAT Scanning: It is used to detect the problems inside the skull and to identify the location of any pathological conditions.
MRI: It uses strong external magnetic field for mapping internal tissues, to highlight pathological changes and to study the tissue metabolism.Imaging can be obtained from any plane.
Ultrasound imaging technique: It is used to diagnose kidney stones, gall bladder stones, intestinal obstruction, fallopian tube, age, health and gender of foetus etc.

Some of the therapeutic instruments include

Pace-maker: It regulates the heart beat. Pace maker is affected by microwave oven, metal detectors, electric shaver, cellular phone, automobile ignition etc.
Angioplasty: It is used to open a blocked coronary artery vessel through ballooning.
Angiography: It is a method of introducing radio opaque contrast medium or fluoroscopic chemical through various parts of the heart to study the health of walls, valves, ventricles, coronary arteries etc. The progress could be filmed.
