ITO Cementation wraps up tunnelling work in Kolkata Metro East West Corridor
ITO Cementation India has announced the completion of tunneling work by ITO – ITO Cem JV in Kolkata Metro East West Corridor with the breakthrough of TBM “Urvi” at Bowbazar in Kolkata.
The construction engineering company said that the project is being undertaken for Kolkata Metro Railway Corporation, under the Ministry of Railways.
ITO Cementation India said that the project has been efficiently wrapped up despite the challenging stretch of vintage buildings and the Covid-19 pandemic.
With the breakthrough, the entire TBM tunneling for East West Metro project has been done, said the company.

After completion of the TBM drive, the two TBMs – ‘Urvi’ and ‘Chandi’ will be retrieved from retrieval shaft at Bowbazar.
ITO Cementation India stated: “This tunnel boring completion is indeed a great momentous occasion for the Kolkata East – West Metro Project authorities and ITO – ITO Cem JV.”
Earlier this month, ITD Cementation India had won two orders with a total value of about INR 950 crores.
