US-based fintech company Ideanomics said that its Mobile Energy Global (MEG) division has bagged an order for 2,300 EV Taxis from the City of Guilin in the Chinese province Guanxi from QuianXi.

Ideanomics said that delivery of the EV taxis will begin in the first half of 2020.

According to the company, China has been encouraging its provincial governments to implement blue sky environmental regulations which underpins the adoption of clean energy vehicles, especially those with high energy usage like the commercial vehicle sector.

Alf Poor – CEO of Ideanomics said: “This deal comes on the back of our recent orders in Yunnan province and the city of Chengdu, Sichuan, and is part of our progression into other provinces.

“Taxis are a prime target market, as the need for conversion to EV is easy to understand and implement by local authorities. Our S2F2C model to support the EV programs is being well received. We’re excited to get the program underway in Guilin and look forward to expanding our relationship with the city and province.”

Ideanomics said that taxis is one of the four major revenue segments for Mobile Energy Global, which is also developing umbrella financing solutions to help streamline EV adoption by commercial fleet operators. The key EV operating segments of Mobile Energy Global are heavy duty commercial for closed area environments like mining, steel mills, airports, and seaports, buses and coaches, and taxis, and light commercial last-mile logistics vehicles.

Earlier this month, Mobile Energy Global won an order for 35,000 EV Taxis from Yunnan Energy Investment Group in Yunnan Province.
