Hornea 2 wind farm contract : Danish wind power company Ørsted has selected UK-based subsea EPC company Subsea 7’s Seaway 7 for the installation of the entire inner array cables for the 1,386MW Hornea 2 wind farm in the UK North Sea as per the latest offshore wind industry news.

Optimus, a subsidiary of Ørsted placed the order to Seaway 7, valued at $50-100m.

Under the Hornea 2 wind farm contract, Seaway 7 will also be responsible for pre-installation submarine cable route survey, pre-installation boulder clearance activities, and post-lay trenching service.

The inner array cable system comprises 165 x 66kV copper-core submarine composite cables with a total length of over 420km.

The project engineering work for the Hornea 2 wind farm contract will be started immediately by Seaway 7 and the offshore activities are expected to start in 2021.

The Hornea 2 wind farm will be equipped with 165 offshore wind turbines from Siemens Gamesa, each having a capacity of 8.4 MW. The Ørsted offshore wind farm will be located 90km off the Yorkshire coast.

The Hornea 2 wind farm is expected to meet the power consumption needs of more than 1.3 million homes upon becoming operational in 2022.

Recently, DEME Offshore, a subsidiary of the DEME Group, was awarded a contract worth more than €200 million for the Hornsea Two offshore wind farm from Orsted for the transport and installation of foundations and turbines.
