Freeport LNG project : Train 2 begins commercial operation

McDermott International and its partners Chiyoda International and Zachry Group have started commercial operation of the second train of the Freeport LNG project in Texas, owned by Freeport LNG Development.

Train 2 of the LNG export project began production in December 2019 and subsequently shipped its first commissioning cargo.

Developed on Quintana Island in Freeport, the Freeport LNG project will have a capacity of producing over 20mtpa of LNG from four liquefaction trains.

“Congratulations to the joint venture project team who has maintained a commitment to safety and quality. Now we turn our full attention to delivery of the final train.”

Zachry Group is leading the joint venture and has been partnered by McDermott for the Pre-FEED in 2011, and later on, the FEED works to support the early development stage for Trains 1 and 2 of the LNG export project. Chiyoda entered into the joint venture partnership for work associated with Train 3.

The project scope covers three pre-treatment trains, a liquefaction facility made up of three trains, a second loading berth apart from a 165,000 m3 full containment LNG storage tank.

The joint venture said that Train 3 of the Freeport LNG project continues to be on track to maintain its previously announced schedule, with initial production of LNG slated for the first quarter of this year.
