Ckani wind park in Chile : Vestas wins contract from Mainstream Renewable Power

Vestas has been awarded a contract for the 109MW Ckani wind park in Chile from Mainstream Renewable Power, an Ireland-based renewable energy developer.

As per the contract, the Danish turbine maker will supply and install 26 of its V150-4.2 MW wind turbines. Additionally, the contract will see Vestas handle the operation and maintenance of the Chilean wind farm over the next 20 years, under an Active Output Management 5000 (AOM 5000) service agreement.

Commenting on the Ckani wind park contract, Manuel Tagle – General Manager for Mainstream Renewable Power Chile and LATAM, said: “We are delighted to announce this second partnership with Vestas in Chile and to continue working with them on the delivery of our Chilean renewable energy platform, Andes Renovables.”

The Ckani wind farm, which will be located in the Antofagasta region was awarded to Mainstream Renewable Power during an auction held in 2016.

The wind farm is expected to begin commercial operation in 2021.

Vestas said that the new order adds to the 1.5GW plus turbines it had installed in Chile to date.

In 2001, Vestas is said to have pioneered the development of wind energy in Chile through the 2MW Alto Baguales wind park. With the addition of Ckani wind park, the Danish turbine manufacturer takes its market share in the Latin American country to 40%.
