Brazilian retail chain Lojas Americanas has struck a deal with Zippin to deploy the latter’s checkout-free technology in its stores across Brazil, as per the latest retail technology news.

Lojas Americanas has been piloting Zippin’s checkout-free technology for nearly four months at a store in Rio de Janeiro. The next Lojas store to have the checkout-free shopping technology is expected to open shortly in Sao Paulo.

In June 2019, the Brazilian retail chain through its innovation vertical, “IF – Inovação e Futuro” (Innovation and Future), invested in Zippin to use the checkout-free technology exclusively in Brazil and develop new technologies for its Ame Go retail stores.

Krishna Motukuri – co-founder and CEO of Zippin, commenting on the checkout-free technology used by the Brazilian retail chain,  said: “We chose to partner with Lojas Americanas not only because of their size and scope as a multi-billion-dollar retailer, but also due to their ability to deploy our technology quickly.

“We were able to go from a signed contract to a launched pilot in three weeks, and then from pilot to a live public store within two months.

“While other technology providers have announced deals and hinted at pilot stores, the new Lojas Americanas stores make Zippin the first company to deploy its checkout-free technology in a live, public store with a major retail partner.”
