The botanical name of beet root is Beta vulgaris, that belongs to Chenopodiaceae family and is commonly known by other names like garden beet, table beet and red beet.

Beetroot is a naturally available food and is commonly found in countries like Central America, North America and Britain. Beetroot is a vegetable that grows under the ground.

Beetroot is used for preparing many food items and is also used as a coloring agent in jams, ice creams etc.

Role of Beetroot Juice in reducing high blood pressure:

Beetroot juice is very effective in treating the high blood pressure. Beetroot contains nitrates that are converted to nitric oxide after mixing in blood.  The nitric oxide that is released in blood is a potent vasodilator of the blood vessels and cause decrease in the blood pressure. 250mg of raw beetroot juice should be taken daily.

In addition to nitrates, beetroot also contains many nutrients like vitamins, minerals and in large amounts.

Beetroot also contains sylesia, that assists in the absorption of the calcium.

Uses of Beetroot:

  • High concentration of nitrates are present in beetroot that gets converted to nitric oxide. Nitric oxide is useful for the blood flow as it is a potent vasodilator.
