Amla is biologically known as Phyllanthus emblica. Amla consists of the dried and fresh fruits of the plant, Emblica officinalis, that belongs to the family Euphorbiaceae.


Amla is a small or medium tree that grows in decidious forests of India, Sri Lanka and Myanmar.

Chemical Constituents of Amla:

Amla constitutes of chemicals like natural vitamin C, fat, phyllembin and tannins.

Minerals like iron, calcium and phosphorous are also present in amla. Pectin is also present in amla fruits. As the fresh fruits contain more amount of moisture, they are to be dried and stored.
