Nestle Canada to invest $40m to expand ice cream factory in London, Ontario

Ice cream industry news : Nestle Canada plans to boost its production capabilities at its ice cream factory in London, Southwestern Ontario with an investment of CAD 51.5 million ($40 million).

The Nestle ice cream factory located on Wilton Grove Road, manufactures the Haagen-Dazs, Parlour and Drumstick ice cream products for the Canadian market.

It will go through a fourth phase of expansion to create 9,000 square feet to facilitate more capacity for future growth of Haagen-Dazs ice cream and other popular ice cream products.

Apart from that, the expansion of the Nestle ice cream factory in London will enable the company to come up with more innovations and introduce new ice cream products to the market.

Having commenced the groundwork for the fourth phase expansion of the Nestle ice cream factory, the company plans to begin production at the expanded site in early 2019.

Nestle says that the expansion of its London ice cream factory in Ontario will create a dozen new jobs while moving 45 jobs from seasonal part-time to full-time jobs. The expansion also means more business for those who have been supplying ingredient, packaging and raw materials to the Nestle ice cream factory in London.

The Ontario government has pledged it support to the ice cream factory expansion through a $390,750 fund from its Southwestern Ontario Development Fund, to support the existing 380 jobs at the facility.

Commenting on the expansion of the Nestle ice cream factory in London, Jeff Leal – Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and Minister Responsible for Small Business, said: “We are pleased to support Nestlé’s significant investment in southwestern Ontario’s food processing and dairy sector. Our support for Nestlé Canada through the Southwestern Ontario Development Fund is helping create good jobs and economic opportunities for workers, dairy farmers and communities throughout the London area.”
